Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Germany in the late 17th Century. He was a musician and composer of classical music in the Baroque period. He is known for his orchestral music (the Brandenburg Concertos) his instrumental Cello Suites, his keyboard works, which include the Goldberg Variations and The Well-Tempered Clavier, organ works such as the Schubler Chorales and the Toccata and Fugue in D minor, and vocal music (St Matthew Passion and the Mass in B minor). Alongside such greats as Beethoven and Brahms, Bach is generally regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music.
Howard Luck Gossage, influential ad man of the 1950's and 60's, known as the Socrates of San Francisco, was well known for having emblazoned the images of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms on white crewneck sweatshirts. His print advertisement teased: "Be the first highbrow in your neighborhood to own a Beethoven, Brahms, or Bach sweatshirt." Well, now you can be the first highbrow in your neighborhood to own a Bach graphic t-shirt, celebrating this classical music composer whose music you have surely heard at some time, whether you recognize it or not.
